We will pass through Umbria, across the most beautiful consular roads, which have contributed to the affirmation of the Roman Empire, to return to the “Eternal City”.
Tour stages
Day 1: welcome to Rome!
Highlights: Rome
Welcome to Rome! Try to arrive some days before, to explore the “Eternal City”, where time stands still. Who visited it undoubtedly describes it as the most magnificent city in the world. We will meet at the hotel, you will have free time to relax o to take a walk before the safety briefing. After this we will enjoy a welcome dinner in a traditional Italian restaurant (Lazio regional cuisine).
Day 2: from Rome to Siena, km 245- miles 152
Highlights: ss2, Tuscania, San Quirico D’Orcia, Siena
«Sia maledetta Maremma e chi la ama, sempre mi piange il cuore quando ci vai dalla paura che non torni mai». (Translated – “Let Maremma be cursed and whoever loves it, my heart always cries when you go there from the fear that you will never come back.”) The words of this Tuscan song from the 1800s make us understand how people felt and how they imagined these lands in ancient times. Today we’ll cross Maremma (rest assured there’s nothing cursed), passing through long stretches of the state road 2 to Cassia, one of the most suggestive ancient roman consular roads of the peninsula, through many turns and landscapes, we’ll not even realize that we’re arrived in Siena.
Day 3: from Siena to Florence, km 247- miles 153
Highlights: le Crete, San Galgano, San Gimignano, Il Chianti.
Siena and Florence, two of the most famous cities in Italy, real architectural treasures, a few tens of kilometers from each other, a fierce rivalry, all around spectacular roads and views. Today we start from the famous area of Crete. A road with wide views leads us to the monastery of San Galgano, few hundred meters above the hermitage of Montesiepi the "sword in the stone" is preserved. We’ll keep riding along secondary roads to San Gimignano. We’ll cross a spectacular Chianti area arriving in Firenze. An intense day, but how not to fall in love with this land?
Day 4: Florence, Pisa Loop km 184- miles 115
Highlights: Lucca, Piazza dei Miracoli, Firenze
In the morning we will leave Firenze following the course of the Arno. Secondary streets, and few turns, to get to Lucca, the first gem of the day, surrounded by its intact walls. Anyway, today's main stop is undoubtedly in Pisa with its enchanting “Piazza dei Miracoli”. In the last part of the day we’ll drive on a fast-flowing road, which will allow us to get back in Florence in the early afternoon, so you can dedicate more time and attention to this beautiful city of art.
Day 5: from Florence to Maranello - Bologna, km 255/miles 158
Highlights: la Futa, Abetone, Museo Maranello.
Few curves, honestly lot of curves, lost in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, between more or less famous passes, before visiting the Ferrari Museum, in Maranello, going deep inside the myth of the extraordinary history of Cavallino Rampante: https://musei.ferrari.com/it/maranello Once the visit is over, we will head to the destination of the day, Bologna.
Day 6: from Bologna to Assisi, km 299- miles 186
Highlights: la Raticosa, passo Giogo, la Verna, valico dello Spino.
The morning begins with a guided tour of the Ducati factory, the beating heart of the company, where we’ll discover how our favorite bikes born and how they’re assembled, and then we’ll move on to the Museum: history and future, challenges and successes, vision and determination, a real journey into the myth that traces the 90 years of the company. After all this, Apennines await us, we will climb several passes and when we’ll begin to think we’re late, a faster road will help us to arrive in time to the day's goal, Assisi.
Day 7: from Assisi to Roma km 225 / miles 140
Highlights: Valnerina, cascata delle Marmore, ss3
We are at the end of our tour, last day of driving, and what more worthy ending than finishing our tour in the Eternal City, Roma. We will move away from the place of departure in the usual way, as almost no one does, the road is narrow, lonely and beautiful. Once we get into the Marche we will reach the capital driving on some of the most beautiful consular roads in central Italy.
Day 8: Goodbye!
Highlights: Rome
We’ll say goodbye after the breakfast, wishing that you enjoyed your motorcycle tour through the most beautiful destinations in Italy. If you like you can spend some few more days in the beautiful city of Rome. Thank you, see you on the next motorcycle tour with Landsails Motorcycle Tours!
Best food experience
The typical dishes of Italian gastronomy and the flavors of tradition that combine taste and territory. Guide, naturally by motorbike, to regional cuisine:
Perhaps one of the most summery dishes ever, the Tuscan panzanella is a simple recipe in preparation but truly surprising in taste. The trick is to choose fresh and top quality ingredients (except the bread, that must be stale to soak well in the tomato sauce!).
Suggested wine: Bianco di Pitigliano.
