Sicily on motorcycle? Why not.......
When Giovanni told me about the trip that he would take on a motorcycle with a group of Italians through Sicily and invited me, I quickly accepted! 30 Italians and a Mexican. Sounded good to me!
Sicily, full of history, culture, Greek and Roman temples, ruins, castles, exceptional landscapes and to all this add excellent food and good wines in the company of Giovanni and a nice group of Italians.
The roads and back roads in Sicily seem like they were designed for riding a motorcycle! Curves, landscapes, beaches, rocky coasts, alleys, churches, Greek, Carthaginian, Roman, Byzantine, Saracen and Norman ruins, and all with very little traffic! Bring a camera and be ready to take lots of photos!
Names like Palermo, Monreale, Segesta, Erice, Piazza Armerina, Siracusa, Selinuntye, Cefalù, Raguza, Catania, Messina, Taormina, Etna. They reminded me of my history and geography classes.
The itinerary zigzagging from coast to coast. Relaxed days of 200 km. Much to see daily on this spectacular island so coveted during the centuries passed by all the civilizations in the Mediterranean basin.
The very favorable climate. Not a rainy day. Cool in the mountains and warm on the coasts. Our trip, from the end of April to the beginning of May. The 10-day package that Giovanni put together included 3- to 4-star hotels, breakfast, luxury seafood dinners, a map and a tourist guide to Sicily, as well as the indispensable recommendations of Giovanni, who also took great care of his “herd ”.
The well calculated program. No long or tedious days. Clean and comfortable hotels. The dinners included very good.
Giovanni: A pleasure to travel with this exceptional photographer, writer and world 2-wheeler adventurer. We envy it!
