Do you dream a motorcycle trip in Europe, the Alps and the Dolomites? Here they are, in a SUPER tour, as you would never have imagined! Who’s fascinated by challenges will probably like this challenging but not impossible proposal, a well thought-out mix of mountain passes through the magnificent Alpine chain of Switzerland, Italy and Austria. A real “playground for riders”, a challenge where we will try to guide you on the most beautiful and panoramic roads. The Swiss Confederation is by definition the "border state" and there is no itinerary that does not involve crossing more than one. The "Four Passes", all over 2000 meters and accessible only in summer, as well as a must for riders from all over Europe, are a wonderful journey into the heart of the Alps to relive the myth of the Alpine Post. A unique opportunity. You will discover spectacular views, dominated by towering glaciers, turquoise lakes, deep gorges and quaint villages. The journey continues through the Italian and Austrian Alps, including the fantastic climbs to the Stelvio and Gavia passes, to then reach the Dolomites, the mountains par excellence, characterized by a rosy white, which takes on different colors depending on the time of day, and Lake Garda, one of the most popular tourist destinations, surrounded by overhanging mountains. A journey hunting for alpine passes, many of which are famous, others a little less, crossing some of the most beautiful and evocative natural contexts, recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Trust us, we know every single corner of these wonderful places. More than a thrill of riding on beautiful and scenic route!
Tour stages
Day 1: Arrival in Milan
Highlights: Milan
Arrive in Milan, the capital of design and fashion, if you can, we recommend you to visit it before leaving for our exciting motorcycle trip! We meet at the hotel, you will have some free time to relax or do some sightseeing before the safety briefing. Afterwards we will enjoy a welcome dinner together in a traditional Italian restaurant (Lombard regional cuisine).
Day 2: from Milan to Passo Spluga 206 km / miles 128
Highlights: San Marco Pass, Spluga Pass.
Leaving Milan, we will head east, a short stretch of motorway to Bergamo to tackle the first step, that of S. Marco and then, after a real indigestion of curves for over 90 kilometers, arrived in Morbegno we will turn west to head towards the Spluga Pass, the arrival point of our first day. The particular position of the valley, in a context that is spectacular, has favored the passage of man already in prehistoric times. What can I say, a truly stunning stage finish.
Day 3: from Passo Spluga to Grimsel 388 km / miles 241
Highlights: 4 Swiss passes, Grimsel hospitz
We leave and we are in a moment in Switzerland to get lost along the Via Mala and push us up to Reichenau from where we begin the pyrotechnic approach to the core of the itinerary: Oberalppass to swoop down on Andermatt, a pretty village in the area dominated by the 4 passes, where we will spend the night after having attacked the Furka, the Nufena and ending with the Tremola, the ancient Gotthard road entirely paved, what a show, what a day !!
Day 4: from Grimsel to Livigno 367 km / miles 228
Highlights: 4 passes, Saint moritz, Klausenpass, Albulapass, the Bernina pass
We leave the 4 passes, after having crossed the spectacular Grimsel and the Sustenpass and heading east. But Switzerland is a land of passes: Klausenpass, Albula, Bernina, to close the tour and the feast of Alpine passes in Livigno. We know, we exaggerated, but tomorrow we will relax, we deserved it !!
Day 5: Livigno 0 km/0 miles
Highlights: Livigno
The town of Livigno, nestled between the Engadina and the upper Valtellina, is an enchanting valley that stretches for 12 kilometers between two mountain chains that gently descend from the 3000m to 1800m of the town, consisting of an uninterrupted series of houses in wood and stones. With the nearby and pretty hamlet of Trepalle, the highest permanent settlement in Europe, Livigno is one of the most important and well-equipped tourist resorts in the Alps which, with more than one hundred welcoming hotels, offers the visitor wonderful holidays in contact with nature. and with the alpine tradition throughout the year, definitely an excellent place to recover from the efforts of the previous days.
Day 6: from Livigno to Merano km252 / miles 156
Highlights: Stelvio pass, Gavia pass, Forst brewery dinner
Another great day, the day of the Stelvio, the highest and most famous car pass in Italy with its 2.757mt, the second highest in Europe, a true legend, one of the myths of European roads, we will get there from the Swiss side to then hit the Gavia pass towards Bormio and attacking the main character of the day. Afterwards, everything will seem obvious: the Passo del Tonale, even the road carved into the rock to reach Val d’Ullimo, a prelude to the end of this day.
Day 7: from Merano to Cortina km 214 / miles 133
Highlights: Passo di Monte Giovo, Passo Croce di Comelico, Auronzo di Cadore, 3 peaks of Lavaredo
Approaching-day to the Dolomites, the direction pushes us relentlessly towards the east, but there is the Monte Giovo pass to be tackled immediately to warm up the engines and tires. If traffic won’t be too much we will try to take state roads, 12 and 49 up to San Candido, where we will turn southeast to almost completely bypass the 3 Peaks of Lavaredo block before arriving in Cortina, where we will allow ourselves a well-deserved day of relax.
Day 8: Cortina, rest km 0 / miles 0
Highlights: Cortina D’Ampezzo
Cortina D’Ampezzo is knows as the "Queen of the Dolomites", and it doesn't take long to understand why, surrounded by mountains, they say, the most beautiful in the world, the Dolomites. Site of the 1956 Olympic Games and the Alpine Ski World Championships in 2021.
Day 9: from Cortina to Canazei km 209 / miles 130
Highlights: Cibiana pass, Giau pass, 4 Dolomite passes, Marmolada with the Fedaia pass.
209 kilometers, must be faced today, are they few? Are they many? The final judgment is up to you, we have certainly committed ourselves to include as much as possible, not only the very famous 4 passes, but the top of the day, we left it to you at the end just before the arrival: arriving in the late afternoon on the Fedaia pass will take you there. it will give truly unique sensations.
Day 10: from Canazei to Riva del Garda km 254 / miles 158
Highlights: Costalunga pass, Carezza lake, Manghen pass, Monte Bondone
Another day in hunt of passes: the lonely and not very busy Costalunga, Lavazè, to then pass through the Manghen pass, on a road that is sometimes so narrow as to make us think we have made the wrong path, but we are used to it. We go up, we go down, we skim Trento to climb Monte Bondone and arrive at the arrival point of the day from the usual panoramic road.
Day 11: Riva del Garda, loop km 207 / miles 129
Highlights: Lake Garda, Monte Baldo
A loop is a loop, what could be easier than doing it by circling a lake? But we are demanding types and I think you have understood: the mountains that surround Lake Garda. So we found the right compromise, to get to Sirmione, whose beautiful historic center stands on a peninsula that divides the lower Lake Garda and where we will arrive for lunch time. It starts following the clockwise direction of travel to climb Mount Baldo, with its narrow streets with little traffic, where at times the view suddenly opens onto the lake below, and then in the afternoon follow the west shore of the Garda.
Day 12: from Riva del Garda to Milan km 260 / miles 161
Highlights: Ledro lake, Croce domini pass, Presolana pass, Iseo lake
Leaving the shores of Lake Garda we will head west, towards Lake Ledro, but the goal of the day, the last on a motorbike, is to attack the imposing mountains of the Adamello Brenta National Park, through some alpine passes among landscapes breathtaking, first of all that of Croce Domini. Tired? You could be, but we will ask you for a little more effort, to grant us the ascent to the spectacular Presolana pass, well known by local riders and follow the most evocative part of Lake Iseo, up to Sarnico, where with a short stretch of highway, we will reach the place of delivery of the vehicles. We are at the end, after 2387 kilometers, how many steps will we have crossed? No, this is not the question to ask, ask yourself: was it worth it?
Day 13: Have a good trip!
